City Tower Gates in Nördlingen

Five tower gates remain in the town of Nördlingen.

Nordlingen City Tower Gates

Reimlinger Tor, the oldest gate, was built in the 14th century and secured the road south to Augsburg. Reimlinger Tor is a guard tower in Nördlingen

Berger Tor, built between 1435 and 1436, secured travel southwest to Ulm. The wall of Bergertor still contains a canon from the Thirty Years' War.

The Baldinger Tor, first mentioned in 1376, secured the route north to Würzburg and Frankfurt. It was rebuilt in 1430 and a portion collapsed in 1703 due to damage sustained in earlier conflicts.

The Löpsinger Tor, originally built in 1388, was totally reconstructed in 1592. It protected travel south to Nuremberg. It stands 138 feet (42 meters) high and holds the City Wall Museum.

The Deininger Tor secured the road east that led to Regensburg and on to Vienna. With no gun platform it was the most vulnerable gate and was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648).
